Update

This week the finish line is pretty much in site. The fireplace, baseboards and crown molding have all been painted. After much back and forth with my husband, I went against my designer gut and chose a pure white for the baseboards and the fireplace surround. The colour is Behr Ultra White, the can straight off the shelves with no tint in it. Although I do not mind it for the baseboards, I am absolutely NOT feeling it for around the fireplace. I find it makes the tile look dingy.
So back to the drawing board (or rather Home Depot) we go! I have not yet decided on a colour to use for the fireplace surround, but I am thinking something in the brownish-griege family. I am thinking a color fairly close to the brown accents in the rug.
Without actually testing samples in person as yet, here are some of the colours that are contenders.

My first instinct was to paint the surround Black, but my client (aka my husband) used his power of veto on that. Just looking at the samples above my two favs are Behr Kindling and SW Backdrop and a safe option SW Alpaca. However I think the darker tones in Behr Kindling and SW Backdrop will help to better show case the warm tones in my tile.
I will go and buy some samples and figure this out for next week.

The frames for the floating shelves have been installed. I was trying to complete the shelves this week, however everyone was getting wood cut the day I went to Home Depot, so I opted to try again another day as I had the hubby, my 10, 8 and 6 year old, along with my 7 month old with me (talk about a recipe for a whiny disaster, lol but really cry out loud – I kid, I kid).
With the shelves and fireplace surround on hold, it was time start finalizing decor pieces.
The living room area is fairly small, therefore I have to make smart decisions when choosing a side table, console table, ottoman and accessories.
Let’s take a look back at the mood board.

Both myself and the hubby were completely in love with the console table on the mood board. It is touch of modern for him and brings in traditional for me with the wood tone. However, priced at $349.99 CDN I just could not bring myself to purchase it. I was leaning towards DIY or finding another one – until I came across a discount code.

$70 dollars off?!? Say no more, I purchased it immediately.
With the console table purchased. That is one less item on our list to tackle.
Remaining “To-Do List”
- Extend crown molding around fireplace

Plan for this up coming week: complete shelves; repaint fireplace surround; complete DIY plaster art; and track down final decor items. Only 2 weeks left and I feel like I just got started, but at the same time so much has been accomplished.
